WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT . . .

CHILDPROOFING DRIVEWAYS

TYPES AND STYLES OF DRIVEWAY SAFETY ITEMS

Driveway Barriers

These items help alert cars that children are at play. They range in design from a bright, yellow tripod sign to a mesh or plastic style barrier that spans the entire width of your driveway. The barrier style blocks off an entire area to help prevent cars from entering, and to help keep children from riding their bikes outside the driveway or from chasing a ball into the street. Some styles are more durable than others and provide a sturdier barrier. Some are easier to set up and take down at the end of the day.

Driveway Warning Signs

This bright yellow sign features a tripod design with high-visibility lettering to warns motorists that children are nearby. Placed strategically at the entrance your driveway they caution drivers to keep an eye out for tots.

DOS AND DON'TS
THE PROPER USE OF DRIVEWAY SAFETY PRODUCTS

DO use both a driveway barrier (if you can) along with warning signs to alert motorists that children are nearby.

DO place warning signs far enough from tots at play to give drivers sufficient notice from all directions.

DO remove warning signs when children are not at play.

DON'T rely on any driveway barrier to keep your child within your driveway area. Always supervise all outdoor play.

DON'T leave your child unattended, or rely on any safety item to keep your child safe.

The information given and the products referred to can reduce the likeliness of injury and are intended to help you provide a safer environment for your child. The effectiveness of suggested products depends on proper installation and use. There is no replacement for adult supervision.
